SAP’s Global Partner Summit in Orlando, FL this week featured much talk about enabling the ‘intelligent enterprise’ and the role solution providers can play in what the vendor is claiming as a large channel opportunity.
Speaking with Channelnomics at the event, Michael Romero, SVP and head of SAP practice at Frisco, TX-based SI HCL Technologies, said this is the biggest opportunity for the SI if it can truly innovate, and do so at the edge.
He noted that innovating at the edge is key for HCL’s business with S/4HANA, SAP’s intelligent ERP suite.
“That’s where the business value comes out of that core, so if you can implement that S/4 core and start to centralize data, data is king. And then you start to leverage and utilize that at the edge depending on what you’re talking about, whether it be human interaction, computer interaction, device,” he told Channelnomics.
“That’s where the Internet of Things comes in, that’s where our engineering, R&D and services come in. Because a lot of times, Leonardo, [SAP’s IoT portfolio], takes you to a point, but then you need something to interact or something to be happening from a business value perspective. That’s where the value really starts to play in with companies like HCL.”
For ERP-focused solution providers that have traditionally focused on selling and implementation, a focus “back to the core” is good news, according to Karl Fahrbach, SVP, global head of channels, SAP.
“So that means if you’re an ERP partner, you don’t have to stop your message and value proposition with your ERP…knowledge and expertise. You can go and talk beyond ERP and [also] grab value proposition from the different lines of business. This connection from the front office to back office is the value proposition,” he told Channelnomics.
